Forest Bathing and Nature Walk in Portland, Oregon
Tune in to Self and nature as we meander through one of Portland's magical forests featuring native and global bushes, flowers and towering trees.
First, we will meet at a neutral location and have a brief introduction before setting out on our experience.
The trail we will take is about one mile, and we will stop a couple of times to observe, be, and have an optional mindfulness prompt. Unlike hiking, forest bathing is an opportunity to take things slow, embrace all there is, and take in the abundance nature has to offer.
Forest bathing is a beautiful way to practice stillness, and our goal is to invite others to see the beauty in nature by pausing and taking it in.
This experience is rain or shine, please come prepared with rain gear during the rainy season (October-June).
The term Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) was coined by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries in 1982, and can be defined as making contact with and taking in the atmosphere of the forest.
Forest environments promote lower concentrations of cortisol, lower pulse rate, lower blood pressure, greater parasympathetic nerve activity, and lower sympathetic nerve activity than do city environments. (Information from National Library of Medicine)
